Parallel sorting algorithms
Though the theory handled sorting in parallel, I most enjoyed the implementation,
which was mainly the simulation of a transputer using Linux machines.

Belgacom Skynet Rue Colonel Bourg, 124
I arrived at Skynet at the very beginning of internet providers in Belgium.
At that time, we had to start everything, such as setting up different
services to the public (mail, news, irc, users, ftp, ...), installation
configuration and maintenance of machines of all kinds (PC, SUNs, CISCO routers,
US Robotics pop, ...) We also worked closely together with Belgacom for our
After a while a collegue and I wrote a new mail system for Skynet, which remained
in service for many years, supporting over 300.000 mailboxes at the time.
Apart from that, I maintained the users server, and developed
an SMS service, until I became head of Research and Development.

Yezzz NV / IT Brainzzz Leopold Dewaelplaats 6
Development of the website and all supporting processes.
Most of the site was developed in PHP3, supporting processes were writte in Perl, C and C++.
Here I had my first encounter with versioning systems. I also gained profound knowledge
of online payments. (Ogone Payment Services)
As Yezzz was small company I had to do all sorts of IT stuff. I was responsible for
buying servers, installation and maintenance. I designed network infrastructure, including
uplinks using ADSL and Telenet, etc. ...
After a while more IT people were hired, and I became de facto project leader and analist.
We did several integrations, with partners like VTM,
MSN, Skynet, UnderTheCork for Yezzz
on the one hand, and Volvo, BMW for YezzzCar on the other.
At the time we also had a small sub company called RegisterOne (a .be registrar),
where I did both analysis and implementation. With this project came multiple online interactions
with other parties, such as DNS-BE, Tucows, Ogone (NetCle@ring), ...
Several daemons were developed in C++, one of them generating PDF invoices automatically. These daemons
were triggered using UDP communication, making it possible to use them very easily from PHP scripts.

De Persgroep Brusselsesteenweg 347
In november 2004 Yezzz was acquired by De Persgroep. I came with the package.
At first I helped migrating Yezzz. Afterwards I was given a team to work
on other projects for DePersgroep (e.g. 4545, Netwerk.be, ...)
During this period I was given the chance to acquire loads of experience
with technologies used at the company, such as Java,
Flash, Oracle, ...

Mediafin Havenlaan 86C bus 309
After a few year I was given a chance to work at Mediafin (a subsidiary of De Persgroep).
They were in search of a project leader to completely rewrite the sites
and the backoffice, all this using Java and Oracle.
As Mediafin belongs to DePersgroep, it was obvious for them to look for a candidate
within DePersgroep first, and I gladly accepted.
With the development of this new CMS, all servers were moved to the
Persgroep housing facility, so the environment in which I had to work
was identical to what I had done before (Oracle DB, Oracle Application Server, ...)
A nice extra was collaboration with TBM (a daughter of Mediafin) for everything
concerning real time stock quotes.

A-server Antwerpsesteenweg 19
Once the new site at Mediafin was finished, I moved to A-server,
an international company focused datacenter virtualisation software. Though the subject itself
was extremely interesting, I had poor support from the rest of the management team, and decided
to leave shortly after.
When I was asked by DePersgroep to return to them, I could not refuse.
They were having some problems at another of their subsidiaries,
and wanted me to set things straight.
Vacature is all about jobs, jobofferings, your career, etc.
